Obama and the West

One simple question for my fellow American friends. How was that Obama was so successful in all the primaries of the interior West, from the Mid-West to the Mountain West?

Well, Illinois is his home state. I think he also had a lot of African-American support in states like Georgia.

Indeed I did not ask you about the South, but why did he win in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming...

Why is he so strong in the Mountanin West?

I think he's so successful because the mountanous regions of the west are extremely liberal.

Uhm, that's not true... The interior West is the most conservative and Republican region in the United States: Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, Kansas...

So why was Obama so successful in these conservative places?

Not interior west (but those can be liberal too), the mountanous regions are liberal, and I think that has something to do with their relation to the coast.

We're probably talking about different places... The interior West is pretty conservative and Republican.

I was asking myself why Obama is so strong in the most conservative and Republican places of the United States: Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Kansas...

Keeping in mind of course he's successful amongst Democratic voters in those states, who may form a different subset of the population than the total of those who vote. I don't know the answer, but that might be something to do with it.

That's probably it, considering that those were closed primaries, and Rush's operation chaos couldn't work.

Anyway it is very curious that Obama won especially in red states, whil Clinton won especially in blue states.

Does this mean something for the Novemeber election?

A lot of Democratic party leaders are afraid so.

Afraid? Why? That sounds like an advantage to me. But I don't think it matters anyways. McCain's gonna win, in my opinion.
